Words by Nicola Goodhew
Why is it that it that people have become so immersed in the busy-ness of their day that they wear it like a badge of honour? Too much work has made Jack & Jackie, dull. Let’s discover, rediscover, uncover, experience, be curious, lighten up, laugh, feel, touch & reach out.
In making your day more FUN you may be open to risk, ridicule, judgement- and that’s just from you! Let the doubt out. This is a fully functioning pleasure & play zone. Full adult-ing is required but you may bring along your inner child for reference, eye-mask optional.
Let’s start by getting a few things straight. Please note that in the title there is no "should". It is not “Why pleasure & play should rule your day”.
Here are a few reasons why:
Should & rules are no longer part of your trusted vocabulary
You're done with ‘how to guides’
You're much more likely to go with the flow, with what suits you, rather than what you think other people deem right for you
There is no "should" because pleasure & play are already in your day.
All that gold can blind you. Let me be your guide.
Let me ask you a question. When was the last time you felt totally free?
What I mean by that is, at peace with yourself. Where the high vibe took centre stage leaving time and money in the wings. The place where that inner loud and long sigh is truly felt. That moment when nothing could break the magic that was totally yours.
Imagine the freedom of starting your day knowing that the pleasure is already yours. Because it is. The key is following the flow in a playful surrender to what feels good. Sometimes this feels so alien, so forced. This is when you are experiencing resistance, and resistance is really just the ego veiling fear, trying to keep you safe and in line, putting you back in "should" territory
.Recognise this for what it is. Sit in the stillness of what is possible here.
Begin with a sensory immersion and make choices that deliver your soul's desires. Breathe and feel your lungs expand and your belly rise. Diffuse your favourite essential oils. Feel the softest most nurturing fabrics on your skin. Eat and drink to fuel & fuse the meeting of style & taste. Surround yourself with beauty. And hold and feel held by the person or people that you adore.
Pleasure is all around you and is yours for the taking. Having a playful spirit whilst gorging on pleasure keeps you light, centred, real, and full of gratitude. This, in turn, supports the intensity of the experience.
Whenever you find yourself slipping back into busy mode and feel encumbered by "shoulds", I invite you to perform a ‘Re-Right’.
In essence, a Re-Right is a sure way to tap into what turns you on and makes you feel good. It's a way of aligning your soul’s desire to playfully source pleasure.
Buy yourself a beautiful pen and journal and start by getting into your pleasure zone by:
Starting with a sensory immersion
Writing from a place of ‘I am’ and being the person you desire to be today, right now.
Surrendering to the moment with no pause, corrections or stiffness. Just totally going with the flow, honouring your soul’s desires.
Blocking, ‘who am I to’, ‘I should’ and ‘if only I could’
Never re-reading a ‘Re-Right’, just starting afresh every day and making it your own and just right for the moment.
Next time you feel guilty for pleasing yourself or making space for self-living and honouring activities like silence, rest, time with friends, lovemaking, retreats, mentoring or anything that calls to the playfulness of your soul. Remember what Jung said:
The child in this context could be substituted for partners, friends, and other's that you feel some obligation to.
When your day is ruled by pleasure and play, and not by what you feel you should be (or not be) doing; then, and only then, are you gorgeously free.
